We would also like to extend gracious thanks to one of our very own Broward Chapter FES Members for being our Key Note Speaker the Broward County Highway Construction and Engineering Division Director, Richard Tornese, P.E.. If you ever visit the Government Center West stop by the 2nd Floor and take a look at our awards case displaying the FES Broward Chapter Awards received throughout the years.
We have several events planned for the upcoming months!
This month we will be having a networking social which we hope you will come out and attend. It will be held at Shuck-n-Dive (650 N. Federal Hwy, Fort Lauderdale 33304) on April 19th at 6:00PM. It will cost only $10/person and will include appetizers and one free drink! Add this event to your calendar now so that you don’t forget to come out and join us!
We would also like to announce the Go Solar Kickoff which will be put on by Broward County Environmental Protection and Growth Management Department which will also be held on April 19th at 1:30PM in the Broward County Commission Chambers at 115 S. Andrews Avenue, Room 422. The Department of Energy has awarded Broward County a grant to streamline the permitting process for roof top residential and small commercial Photovoltaic solar energy systems. The County and their fourteen partner cities are working together to implement an online permitting system that will issue an online permit on behalf of Broward County or one of the partner cities for certain roof top systems. Lets celebrate the engineers of Broward County!
I would first like to say a BIG Thank You to all our FES Members who came out to volunteer on Saturday at Mathcounts! We had over 200 students participate and will be sending 3 teams to the State Competition. Special Thanks to Andres Diaz and Gabriel Bacca who did a great job coordinating this year’s event!
E-Week is approaching fast, February 19th – February 25th. This year we are planning something a little different than some of our past years for E-Week. Instead of the typical E-Week Banquet we are having an Awards Ceremony and Awards Reception in hopes that you all will be able to attend! The FES Broward Chapter wants to pay tribute to our Broward County Engineers and what better place to do that than at the Broward County Government Center West. Please plan to join us on February 24, 2012 at 4:00 PM to help us celebrate some of those who have made positive contributions to our communities throughout Broward County.

MATHCOUNTS
Good Afternoon FES Members!
It’s almost time for MATHCOUNTS and we need your help! We need volunteers and sponsors for the MATHCOUNTS Competition being held on February 4th at Stranahan High School. Not available to volunteer all day? That’s okay! You can volunteer for a portion of the day but please come out and help! We are also hoping to have donations from companies who would like to contribute to this great cause! Doesn’t your company want to contribute to the building of our future engineers? Well here is your opportunity. Companies who donate over $200 will have their logos put on the back of this year’s MATHCOUNTS T-shirts! So please plan to give your time and/or a donation to the success of the Broward 2012 MATHCOUNTS COMPETITION!

FES Broward 2011 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament
Don’t forget that the FES Broward 2011 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, December 2nd at 1:00 PM at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course. The date is approaching and with the Thanksgiving Holiday falling in between, the tournament will be here before you know it. We certainly do not want you to miss a fun day on a new course!

We have a LUNCH MEETING coming up on November 17, 2011 where one of our very own board members Gary Kienzle will be presenting on the NOVA Thermal Energy System! Mark your calendars! It’s almost time for our Annual FES Scholarship Golf Tournament. An exciting day has been planned at a brand new location! Believe it or not the holidays are right around the corner! And as you know every holiday we have our Joint Holiday Party with ASCE, ITE, SWE and WTS. We will be having the Holiday Party at Quarterdeck (3155 S. University Drive, Davie 33328) on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 6:30PM. The FES Broward Chapter is looking for a few good men and women! We need volunteers! We have started planning for our annual MATHCOUNTS Competition which takes a lot of effort. We are also looking for a mentor for Parkway Middle School Future City Competition Team. That may be you! Florida Engineering Society Broward Chapter – Seeking Leaders
We are preparing for the Annual FES Broward Induction on June 30th which our incoming State FES President Charlotte Maddox has been scheduled to attend, and as I have just returned from the FES Leadership Conference, I have a few questions for our Chapter members. What’s going on out there? What motivates you to want to be a leader? We are looking for a few good leaders in our Broward County Chapter and at this time we have less than 10% of our members participating! Why is that? At times like these, I think it would be beneficial to the professional development of all engineers to take a little extra time to get out and network and make a difference that can be recognized. I would like to challenge you to step from behind the gloom of the economy and make an effort to be an emerging leader with our FES Broward Chapter!

The Big Bang!
The FES 2010/2011 Term is coming to an end soon, but we plan to end the term with a bang and have some fun in the process!
We had a very informative lunch meeting last week that provided very beneficial information for our members! Thanks to William Shepherd for his useful insight!
We have a big holiday weekend coming up and what better way to celebrate than to have one of our Networking Socials! Please plan to join us on Wednesday May 25, 2011 at Tarpon Bend, Downtown Fort Lauderdale!
Then look forward to our Beach Clean Up and BBQ! Summer’s here, its time to head to one of Broward County’s beautiful beaches to do our service by cleaning it up and then enjoy it with a FES BBQ! That’s coming up on June 11th at Hollywood Beach.
