MATHCOUNTS
Good Afternoon FES Members!
It’s almost time for MATHCOUNTS and we need your help! We need volunteers and sponsors for the MATHCOUNTS Competition being held on February 4th at Stranahan High School. Not available to volunteer all day? That’s okay! You can volunteer for a portion of the day but please come out and help! We are also hoping to have donations from companies who would like to contribute to this great cause! Doesn’t your company want to contribute to the building of our future engineers? Well here is your opportunity. Companies who donate over $200 will have their logos put on the back of this year’s MATHCOUNTS T-shirts! So please plan to give your time and/or a donation to the success of the Broward 2012 MATHCOUNTS COMPETITION!

Donations must be made by January 20, 2012 in order for logos to be added to the t-shirt. Checks should be made out to the “Florida Engineering Society Broward Chapter”.
Check your mail! We are sending out our FES Broward Chapter Newsletter publication for the first time in a long time! It will be filled with lots of interesting information and pictures from some of our recent events so keep an eye out for it because you won’t want to miss it!
FES Broward 2011 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament
Don’t forget that the FES Broward 2011 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, December 2nd at 1:00 PM at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course. The date is approaching and with the Thanksgiving Holiday falling in between, the tournament will be here before you know it. We certainly do not want you to miss a fun day on a new course!
Please turn in your registration information as soon as possible as time is running out.

Calling all FES Broward Members: We need you to get involved!
We have a series of events planned for our Broward Chapter Membership and we hope you will be there to support your local FES Chapter because we can only exist with your support!
We have a LUNCH MEETING coming up on November 17, 2011 where one of our very own board members Gary Kienzle will be presenting on the NOVA Thermal Energy System! The meeting will include a presentation with lunch, after which we will tour the system. Please be sure to RSVP (see our events tab) by Friday, November 11th.
Mark your calendars! It’s almost time for our Annual FES Scholarship Golf Tournament. An exciting day has been planned at a brand new location! This year we will have our tournament at the Plantation Preserve Golf Club and the time to sign up is now! Attached is a copy of the registration form and the flyer for the event. Believe it or not the holidays are right around the corner! And as you know every holiday we have our Joint Holiday Party with ASCE, ITE, SWE and WTS. We will be having the Holiday Party at Quarterdeck (3155 S. University Drive, Davie 33328) on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 6:30PM. This event is always a success and lots of fun so don’t forget to RSVP and bring your toy to donate to Toys for Tots! To RSVP and for further information please visit our events tab. The FES Broward Chapter is looking for a few good men and women! We need volunteers! We have started planning for our annual MATHCOUNTS Competition which takes a lot of effort. We are also looking for a mentor for Parkway Middle School Future City Competition Team. That may be you! The Parkway Middle School Team has already started their preparation for the competition so if you interested in giving a little of your time to mentor a team of potential budding engineers please contact me (sbrea@chenmoore.com) as soon as possible!

Florida Engineering Society Broward Chapter – Seeking Leaders
We are preparing for the Annual FES Broward Induction on June 30th which our incoming State FES President Charlotte Maddox has been scheduled to attend, and as I have just returned from the FES Leadership Conference, I have a few questions for our Chapter members. What’s going on out there? What motivates you to want to be a leader? We are looking for a few good leaders in our Broward County Chapter and at this time we have less than 10% of our members participating! Why is that? At times like these, I think it would be beneficial to the professional development of all engineers to take a little extra time to get out and network and make a difference that can be recognized. I would like to challenge you to step from behind the gloom of the economy and make an effort to be an emerging leader with our FES Broward Chapter!

The Big Bang!
The FES 2010/2011 Term is coming to an end soon, but we plan to end the term with a bang and have some fun in the process!
We had a very informative lunch meeting last week that provided very beneficial information for our members! Thanks to William Shepherd for his useful insight!
We have a big holiday weekend coming up and what better way to celebrate than to have one of our Networking Socials! Please plan to join us on Wednesday May 25, 2011 at Tarpon Bend, Downtown Fort Lauderdale!
Then look forward to our Beach Clean Up and BBQ! Summer’s here, its time to head to one of Broward County’s beautiful beaches to do our service by cleaning it up and then enjoy it with a FES BBQ! That’s coming up on June 11th at Hollywood Beach. If you would like to participate please complete the volunteer form (see our events page) and return it to Nevena Parsons (nevena.parsons@hp.com) by June 8th, 2011!
Last but certainly not least is our induction meeting scheduled for June 30th 2011 at Shooters Café! We have a whole new group of board members ready to take the lead for our Chapter for 2011/2012! Come and join us welcome them to their new position with FES Broward!
